As summer approaches, we are organizing a food drive to collect essential non-perishable items for families in need in Oxford. Our ambitious goal? 43,000 pounds of donated food.

When school is out, many local children rely on community resources for meals. Busy summer days can mean that without school meals, many kids miss out on critical breakfasts and lunches. We are eager to guarantee that every family has access to nutritious food during the months of June, July, and August.

The Importance of Our Food Drive

The summer months can be particularly tough for families that depend on school meal programs. According to Feeding America, 1 in 7 children face food insecurity, which often increases during the summer months when school meals are unavailable.

Our food drive is crucial in lightening that burden. By collecting 43,000 pounds of food, we can empower families to keep their children nourished and healthy throughout the summer. Your support has the power to make a real impact on lives in our community!

How You Can Help

Getting involved in our food drive is simple! We are hosting two drive-by and drop-off events at Oxford NSC:

  • Saturday, May 10th from 10 AM to 12 PM

  • Saturday, May 17th from 10 AM to 12 PM

If you can't make it to these specified dates, you're welcome to drop off food donations anytime during our open hours, Monday through Friday. Every contribution matters, and your donations can help provide meals for many families in need.

Ideal Food Donations

If you're wondering what items to donate, consider these great options that work well for our drive:

  • Canned Goods: Items like soups, vegetables, and beans remain durable and are always in demand.

  • Peanut Butter: Kids love it, and it is full of protein!

  • Jelly: This goes perfectly with bread or crackers for quick, easy snacks.

  • Cereals: Breakfast cereals are fantastic for keeping kids energized for summer adventures.

  • Kid-Friendly Snacks: Granola bars, trail mix, and fruit snacks are always appreciated!

A Community Effort

This food drive is about more than just collecting food. It represents collective action. Whether you contribute a single can or organize a food collection with friends, every action counts!

Let's ignite creativity in gathering food. Host a small get-together where friends each bring a can or promote the drive through your local clubs. Together, we can make it happen!

By joining forces, we can alleviate hunger, spread joy, and ensure our kids have the nourishment they need for a fun summer break. Let's showcase our commitment to one another.
